Snow day in Esto

The Esto water tower in the snow.

FOR DECADES to come, people will remember the time Esto got six inches of snow — the most in the recorded history of the town — during the Great Panhandle Snowstorm of January 2025.

Snow at John Clark Park.

Snow covered Esto Baptist Church and the community cemetery next door.

Are you Fred’s wife? Fred’s dad led the drive to build the church.

Yes, I am actually Fred’s widow…sadly he passed in 2020 after battling Alzheimer’s. He was a pastor here in NC for many years. His mom Hattie suffered the same and died in 2012. I recall your mom Anice was a good friend to her in Esto.

When we were married in 1966 the church was so newly built that carpet had not yet been laid. Reception was across the road at the town hall.

Another bit of history….my dad Hamp Christmas also pastored Esto Baptist for a few years in the ’80s and led building the addition of fellowship hall.
